SCIENCE EXPLORATION OF EROSION

Think about the two different demonstrations that took place outside this week.

First, explain what we did in the first ditch. Tell about the landforms you saw being formed. Explain how you knew what you were seeing. (example: A valley was formed because a low place between the two mountains was formed.)

Next, the second paragraph will tell about what we did in the ditch at the top of the hill and what you learned.

You will be graded on whether you used all of the vocabulary words correctly and if you followed the directions to form two paragraphs with topic sentences and concluding sentences and had all required information.

Use the following vocabulary in 2 well written paragraphs. Be sure to include an explanation of how you know each of the things you learned. You may type it here or write on a separate sheet of notebook paper. You will have 2 days to work on it before turning it in.
erosion sediment meander canyon delta
river basin deposition slope dam lake

On Dirt Day, Mrs. Greenslade had made two mountains of dirt and caused erosion with a garden hose. A canyon a deep valley caused by erosion was formed from landslides and water. A river was running down the side of the moutain and makeing a river with many meanders. Deposition formed natural dams with leaves and small sticks that had floated down the channel. Some of the water flowed the other wayand formed a lake behind the mountain.

On the top of the hill, we got to make dams to try and stop the river flow. The river pick up dirt and leaves, the items that the river pick up and washed up on the shore is called seiment. The water flow from the water made basin. When the water passed the dams and made a lake there was a delta. Everyone had a good time at Dirt Day.
